پیش فرض System Image Backup to migrate to SSD or new PC?

Hello,

I've been using File History and System Image Backups of my HP laptop running Windows 10 to an external USB 3.0 portable drive. I'm thinking about upgrading to SSD or maybe even getting a new PC. I've browsed through some tutorials for HDD to SSD migration and they usually mention third-party utilities. File History only seems to backup user files while System Image Backup saves the whole drive, including OS, applications and files?
So would I be able to install the SSD, then somehow boot and then restore the System Image Backup onto the SSD? I'm unclear on how I would boot before there was an OS installation on the SSD. Similar question if I want to use the System Image Backup on a new system. The appeal of doing this is to keep all the Windows 10 settings I've made. But my current HP laptop is 3-4 years old so it probably wouldn't have drivers for the newer PC. Plus if I'm restoring over the OS install on the new system, would I have problems with the Windows Product Activation key?

Any help will be apprecited.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
