Sorbonne to grant PhD to Kiarostami
Abbas Kiarostami The Sorbonne University is set to grant an honorary doctorate to world-renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami for his lifelong cinematic activities.
The 70-year-old director will be honored during a ceremony on Nov. 10, 2010 at Sorbonne University in Paris, ISNA reported.
He was also granted an honorary doctorate from the Ecole Normale Sperieure in 2003.
Filmmaker, painter, designer and photographer, Kiarostami has received many prestigious international awards, including the 1997 Cannes Golden Palm award and the 2008 Glory to the Filmmaker award of the Venice Film Festival.

Kiarostami's latest production
Certified Copy was screened at this year's Cannes Film Festival winning the Best Actress Award for Juliette Binoche.
He has also held a photo exhibition at the Imperial City Art Museum in Beijing.
Kiarostami has staged Mozart's comic opera buffa,
Cosi Fan Tutte at London's Coliseum Theater and the 2008 Festival of Lyric Art in Aix-en-provence in France.
