What is VID?
VID stands for Voltage Identification Digital. It is a hardcoded circuit that functions to provide computer CPUs or central processing units with the right voltage supply. Since the computer’s CPU needs varying voltage supplies depending on the applications and programs it processes, a system using digital signals is in place to adjust or convert voltage output according to the computer’s needs. This result to more flexibility in terms of the power supply usage and consequently, less power will be used up as the voltage supply will also be lessened in times when fewer applications are running or when the computer involved is idle.

The VID setup in most CPUs may come with 6 different levels. These VID levels change depending on the power supply or requirements by the individual CPU. In fact, the VID will change several times to adjust to the CPUs power needs. Values for the VID levels meanwhile are pre-calibrated during the manufacturing phase. This means that individual computer processors having the same core speed may have varying VID settings and configuration.

It is said that lower VID levels are intended for processes that require less power source. This setup results to lower CPU temperature which in turn results to a faster computer processing time. But this is more of a general truth rather than a specific and absolute feature for lower VID levels. Higher VID levels, depending on variant, may still result to higher computer speeds. Varying VID levels are designed more to deal with the computer’s limitations in terms of temperature rather than VCore. This means that setup of varying VID levels will function to help computer CPUs become cooler and not have restrictions on its processing power and functionality. And as experts say, cooler temperatures in the computer’s CPU will result to a significant increase in computer processing speed. In this case, this is because of VID’s help.
